So I'm relatively new, and I have an air bubble wall that is going across the back of my tank....i like the look but how does this affect certain fish???

Are some fish more adept to the constant bubbles and some that it only adds stress??

I've always heard that you don't need it unless you have a tank that is purposely overstocked. But in that case too you would be doing a lot of water changes.

Im pretty sure it does not effect fish in a positive or negative way... It adds more O2 into the water and surface agitatio which also adds more O2 into the water. IMO they are a cool thing to have I have one in one of my tanks (the girlfriends) and the fish play in it all the time and its funny to watch

Agreed with the above. Easthetic values.

Some O2 will be added to the water offcourse. No idea if the 'hissing' sound makes the fishes dizzy.

a question...my wife wants a bubble wall in our 55g tank and she bought this today: http://www.petsmart.com/global/prod...<>ast_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1137217367255

I'm only going to use 2 of the 3 pieces which is around 12" total in length. I still have to get the air pump and a check valve before I put it in the tank. I have been looking online and noticed I can get one of those Whisper 60s for a good price. would that pump be plenty or should I just pay the extra couple bucks and get the Whisper 100? I never used an air pump so I have no clue. I did see a thread here somewhere about getting a bigger pump than needed but that was being referenced about the Rena pumps. does this only apply to those?

chrishicks it depends on how much bubbles you want, for a 12" with regular flow the 60 will work perfectly, if you want MORE bubbles (and i mean many more) get the 100.

Salute

Small air bubbles can be dangerous to *some* fish. Most the oxygen they provide is from the movement on the surfice they create, so powerheads do the job and look better. I don't like the look of airbubbles in a tank.

I recently redesigned my whole filter system to eliminate water splashing and bubbles in water. It's just a matter of opinion.

I once used that bubble walls, and found out thet once they get wet, they must be run al all times. I had mine off for 3 days and when I reconected the pump, it was all clogged.
