why did my bubel wands make my cichlids change colors? i shut it off and the next day they were almost back to their origanal color. Also will a pleco eat the browish alage slim on the glass?

hello,
i have compressiceps and my biggest 1 changes its color completely when i turn the light on or off or the bubbler on or off.the people at my pet store say there color drops when they are stressed becuase a change of surrounding.
