Air Pump Taking in water

I have a dial a air pump that I've been using at full strength and yesterdat I've been using it for something else at the lowest I can get it but I keep finding water in the air tube. I put the air pump higher than the water now but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

And on a second note, should I really move all my air pumps higher than the water? It's kind of impossible for some.

It was probably on too low of a setting for what you were trying to do, And if you cant put them above water level(sometimes this isnt really effective depending on the pump, I would highly recommend(whether the pump is above the tank or not) getting a anti-siphon valve and putting it in the hosing for the pumps. Getting water siphoned into you pump will ruin it and is a potiential fire hazard. Most can be found for less than a buck at an LFS

How much do they usually cost? Should I buy one of those with multiple valves or would a single one be a better choice?

check valves are usually no more than 2 bucks apiece. cheap insurance, imo.

Now the air control valves and the check valve are different. The control valve controls the air flow and the check valve prevents water flowing back into the pump. Sorry if you already knew that but just thought I would point that out.
