-I just recently (two hours ago) bought a Black Molly from Petsmart. My girlfriend and I were looking at fish and it was an amazing fish that I decided would be a good "tank-mate" for one of my bettas. I had an empty 10 gallon tank at home so I didnt worry about buying one. I bought gravel, water purifier (for the tap water) and food for the black molly. Now I know the Betta fish will live fine without an air pump, but is it okay for the Black Molly?

Thanks

-So my Black Molly will be able to breathe sufficiently? Your post count seems to be pretty high so I'm guessing you have some sort of knowledge in the fish area. I'll go ahead and believe you. Thanks a lot!

Way to help out, Kas!

Do you have any other filtration on that tank, Batman? An under gravel filter or a hang-on-the-back filter? And are those the only two fish? The betta and the molly?

-Yes those are the only two fish right now. I am going to buy a few more Mollies later today. No I don't have a filter yet either..

Thanks,

-Does anyone think the betta will be alright with Black Mollies? I put them together in the tank and he chased the Molly around a little bit, not too bad, but I seperated them before I had to go to bed because I obviously can't keep an eye on them whilst sleeping. The Betta is in a floating tank (Medium-sized clear bowl) in the 10 gallon tank and the Molly is free to roam in the tank. I did this so they could still see eachother and get acquainted. Will they be okay together?

I think they'll be alright together as long as the Molly isn't a Lyretail molly with the long fins. If it just has short fins, they should be ok together, but i'd definitely get some filtration on that tank asap... don't get anymore fish until you do.

Has no one noticed this was an EMPTY tank as of a few hours ago? You need to cycle that thing MAN!!!! And what about a heater? I am suprised that two VERY knowledgable fishkeepers here did not notice this. (take that as a light scolding and a heavy compliment you two). You need to get a test kit, basics for amonia nitrIte and NitrAte. Search the forrum here for "fishy cycling".
edit---just noticed the post was from yesterday, so it was empty as of yesterday, not as of a few hours ago. Correction asside, you still need to cycle. It takes a while.
