Has no one noticed this was an EMPTY tank as of a few hours ago? You need to cycle that thing MAN!!!! And what about a heater? I am suprised that two VERY knowledgable fishkeepers here did not notice this. (take that as a light scolding and a heavy compliment you two). You need to get a test kit, basics for amonia nitrIte and NitrAte. Search the forrum here for "fishy cycling".
edit---just noticed the post was from yesterday, so it was empty as of yesterday, not as of a few hours ago. Correction asside, you still need to cycle. It takes a while.
The poster had an empty 10 gallon that was to be home to both of these fish. No cycle, just water condidtioner. No mention of a heater. I was just suprised that you would have missed that. There is no mention of where the beta lived before the 10 gallon, but "empty 10 gallon" especially with no filter, to me means no cycle. And I have to assume if there is no filter there is also no heater(winters comming soon, brrrrr)
kas, focus more on the compliment part of my post
What can I say, Fishy... You're right! I did notice his comment about buying gravel and de-chlor for an empty 10 gallon that he already had, I was being lazy and trying to only address the air pump and fish compatibility question.
Hey, your entitled to a mistake. Just one though !!!! Hey sub, I was just pointing it out. I agree that 9 of 10 newbie posts will need to have cycle explained and it can get tiresome, but like I said earlier, focus more on the complament part. You two seem to know your feces from your fetus. If you still think I need one of those pills, go find Chill for me and get one from him for me!!!! Batman, If you havent ran away in your batmobile cuza all the crazys in here, Really read up on that cycle thing. You need bacteria to process your fishs' waste(not the same as water conditioner).
So, you say no fish needs an air pump? That they do nothing? Ever wonder how me with my "overstocked" aquarium can have healthy fish? Do you know that water is purified by aerators? Did you know that a sick lake can be cleaned up with areators? Well take a look: http://www.lake-aeration.com/Benefits_of_lake_aeration.asp
I was being lazy. I have said before and will again, "you do not need air unless you have some monster fish in a small tank". We almost never see that here except for you who insist on doing it the old school way. Your fish maybe healthy, but are they happy?
