Airstones!

I run one at the back of my tank that my cories love to play in. It's more of a decoration in my opinion, too, and a treat for those fish that like them.

I have a bubble wand in my 60gal, just for kicks, w/ plenty of surface agitation from my filters =]

My thoughts:
-Some medications decrease o2 concentrations, so a airstone is a must..
-For tanks w/ higher tempertures, o2 saturation is lower, an airstone may aid to that (or surface agitation from filters etc.)
-The more o2 in the water, the less stress upon the fish, as it is easier to "breathe" IMO..

My LFS told me that it was needed to add oxygen to my tank???

Yes, but you don't HAVE to use an airstone, there are other ways of getting oxygen to the fish like the surface agitation from a HOB filter or a spraybar etc. Airstones work the same, the bubbles going up to the surface creates surface agitation.

so just looks and for some fish to play in. HOB should? take care of all the aeration.

I personally use a bubble wand and my goldfish and they lay on it and tank a nap. I think the combination of increased water movement, higher oxygen content, and relaxing bubbles lulls them to sleep. They aren't necessary but as they add more water motion over the substrate, can help increase it's ability to filter.

so does anyone else belive that it helps filtration?
