i use them with sponge filters for shrimp tanks, that's about it. i have a bunch of air pumps just sitting around not being used.

I use them w/ sponge filters. For a while, I ran one at night when I was afraid my DIY CO2 might over-do it for my 5g. An air pump & sponge filter are great to keep around for QT/Hosp. tank use.

Yup - an "odd" way of saying that you'll be wasting any CO2 injection effort if you use airstones w/ airpumps.

i thought she meant w/o co2 on the mind. that it didnt help surface agitation and gas exchange.

it did not help gas exchange.

but ya surface agitation or bubbles from below are deff not good with co2.
