top link is a red arowana and bottom link is a gold xback arowana, both asians.
these are either scam ads or people not bothered about the law.
 
If you look at the sellers location, you will see he/she is from Indonesia. Seeing as how the internet is worldwide they wouldn't have to put a disclaimer about needing a permit if the buyer was from anywhere but the US. Also if someone from the US did buy this fish, they would be the one held responsible for trying to import an illegal species. They seller would have the money and the buyer would be SOL.
 
I know, but why would they kill it rather than just send it back? That's a bit cruel if you ask me...
 
the world is cruel unfortunately.
they can try and rehouse them with facilities that have the correct permits but if not they would probably kill them.
 
A lot of the time Asian arowanas are confiscated and put in a public aquarium.
They are CITES listed, why would they kill them? That defeats the purpose of the ban
