Has anyone else ever had an Albino Cory that never stops swimming? My little guy spends only about 1/3 of his time on the bottom. The rest of the time he spends doing laps around the top of the tank. Bear in mind he is only in a small 2 gallon tank while I await my new tank being ready in a couple of weeks. Is this normal?

His current tank mates are a Ram's Horn snail and 2 white cloud mountain minnows. This will grow when I get my new tank setup.

Thanks

Cories actually gulp air from the surface, and by themselves, tend to be kind of crazy. As long as you aren't worried about low O2 levels, I wouldn't worry. As soon as you get him moved up to the larger tank, make sure to get him some buds. This will help him relax. Sometimes you can mix types, sometimes not. My skunks and peppers ignore each other completely.

Thanks. I plan on getting up to 4 total albino cories to go with a nice small school of minnows and some live plants. I rather like the school aspect of fish so I will stick to just the 2 varieties fo now.

Glad to know that cories are just a little crazy.

My two albinos will do that every now and then. They used to gulp at the top until I put an air stone and a live plant in my 10 gallon. Now they just roam the bottom, and maybe 10% of the time go nuts like that. It's mainly when the light comes on in the morning, or just after feeding in the evening.

Yeah, mine do that, too. If it becomes more and more frequent and they go to the surface a lot more often, it is time to do some extra tank maintenance, but, other than that, it is just perfectly normal to see crazed, constantly swimming Cories.

Thanks for the replies...I know this tank is small but it is just holding these couple of fish until the 10 gallon tank is ready. I do water changes every couple of days as I was used to doing with my Bettas, and there is a small filtration kit involved as well. Hopefully he will be happier and a little more calm when I can get him a friend or 2.

Wow another one of my old threads from oh so long ago. Turns out it was a she, and she did calm down. She has also had 5 kids who live with her now (after the addition of a bronze and peppered cory to the 10 gallon). They have all moved to a 29 gallon tank. The babies do lots of crazy swimming like mom used to do. She seems to enjoy hanging out near the filter and resting more often now.
