Albino Cory Questions

Hello, I recently purchased 4 albino cory cats to go in my 10 gal fishtank with my male betta. They get along great. However today I came home today to a translucent film on my tank, at first I thought was algae, but I looked closely and it almost looks as if it could be eggs? Buy my corys were just purchased, and they're not much more then 3/4" long. How long until they can reproduce? Because Im looking at some of the corys, and it almost looks as if I can see through them because they are so light colored. I look at their stomach area and I cannot tell if I can see their intestines and poops, or if its eggs. I have some photos here. They are all acting fine, and get along great with my betta. So I guess my questions are: Is that cory's tummy dark colored and almost 'bloated' looking because of poop or eggs? Is it possible they have already reach sexual maturity and its possible they are spawning? In the photo of my thermometer, is that eggs that could be everywhere, or is it bacteria? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I seriously doubt that they are eggs, for a couple of reasons. First of all they dont appear to be the size for reproduction. I dont know at what age that particular type of cory breeds, but i do know that most fish stores dont sell sexually mature fish, and if they do, it is for a very pretty penny. Also, if they were eggs, you would be able to see that they were eggs. Fish keep them in somewhat clusters. And in cory cats they are rather large eggs. Also, i dont know exactly how your tank is set up, but for the most part, or at least in my experience fish dont lay their eggs on the glass, it is on a leaf or filter tube. I spose it is possible that it was eggs, but the most likelyhood is that the tank has just become dirty with a little bit of slime build up on the glass. but wait to hear from an experienced corydora breeder

at the size you stated i doubt they are at breeding stage they need to be around 2-3 inches to do this . As stated i believe too that the white stuff is slime or mucus their bellies do swell after eating and the females do have what seems to be a potbelly which is a sign they are eating well colouration of greenish is just internal organs and such, nothing to worry about they do for the record lay on glass and alot of the time but will also lay on leaves, heaters, and pipes the eggs are clustered and they usually lay around 50 or so i would guess at this stage after looking at your photos that in the top photo you have a feamle in the forground and in the background with a possibility of a male in the middle but its not a certainity as the middle fish is obscured alot
to sex them is simple males are smaller by size and viewed from above are narrow whereas the females with of without eggs are rounder ,larger and usually have a "potbelly" look to them
for the record , i have six adult albinos in a 30 gallon tank that breed every three weeks if i let them and currently have around 100 fry at 1/2 inch
they are cool fish so enjoy their nutty behavoiur :-)

After my 10 gallon cycles, I am considering getting Cory's. Is there anything I need to know about them before I make my purchase? I know I need to have 4 or more, but as far as mating, is there any way to stop them ? I dont want little babies all over the place and do not have room to keep the fry. Can I just get rid of the excess eggs?

corys dont always breed usually it is brought on by a sudden and big water change usually done with a 3 degree or more temperature drop so there is a way of reducing them breeding also by the above method of sexing try getting all females or all males thirdly if you do not remove the parents after spawning and add methane blue usually the eggs will fungisis or the parents will eat them or other fish will so dont panic usually you have to try to breed them
