I have an albino tiger oscar. Lately he has taken on a grayish tint to his scales and fins. I'm not sure why and the pet store people could not tell me either. Does anyone have any idea what would be causing him to be grayish?? My second oscar a black tiger seems to be fine, no discoloring. Although the albino is discolored, he has been acting fine.

the test strips I have, say that the water is fine(ph-7.2, alkalinity-80, hardness-very soft, nitrite-0, nitrate-0) We have a water softner attatched to our well, so that's something I can't change. I took a sample to the fish store and the guy said the ammonia level was a little high and suggested I put in an activated carbon pouch, which I did into each filter.

Any info that you can give us on the tank's water conditions would be helpful. (Size, NitrAtes, NitrItes, Ammonia, pH, hardness, etc., etc.)

How old is the fish? If it's a youngin' it may be normal. I have one that is starting to get black fins, but her brother is still white as can be. Some albinos do this. It's from years of cross breeding and can't be helped. I know it sucks cause you want em to stay white forever.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have had these guys for about a month now, and it's just been in the last week or so that he's been discolored. I was debating on whether it was the food i was feeding them and changed to a color enhancing pellet, which seems to make the black oscar happier, my albino is still kind of gray.. but if it's something that is normal i won't worry so much.. thanks again..
