I've been hearing that they are very similar, but I can't find much info about Alder cones. How are cones and IAL similar and different?

do basically the same thing release tannins in water. cones are super cheap too last a while but the leaves look really cool....
alder cones have a natural anti-fungal. They can be brewed like a tea and added to the water of breeding tanks in place of something like methylene blue to prevent fungus of eggs.
Both release tannins and humic acid. The anti-fungal properties most likely only last a day, so woulld need to be re-dosed but the tannic and humic properties continue.

That article worked and it was really interesting! I didn't know that there are so many leaves with beneficial properties. Now i just need to move somewhere that actually has leaves on the ground in autumn...
