Snails, cherry shrimp, ottos, and bristlenose plecos are the options I'd look into. Keep in mind that snails can lead to a population explosion and some species will happily eat aquarium plants. Cherry shrimp are a great small shrimp for freshwater aquariums, but they are small enough to be food for some commonly kept fish. Ottos and bristlenose are both nice options. Ottos should be kept in groups of at least 3 and there is some arguement that bristlenose and other plecs like to have company also.
