Just a simple question, What would be a good cleanup fish, or invert, that eats algae for my 29g tank with one angel? Something that won't outgrow the tank and will get along with the angel.

oh and do corys eat algae?

thanks in advance AC.

Cories don't eat algae. A lone nerite snail is enough to do the job for you. Just make sure it gets enough algae supply once you run out of algae as nerites will not eat anything else but algae.

Lupin is right, corys do not have the mouth structure for eating algae. They prefer meatier foods any ways.

I would suggest snails/shrimp over fish any day simply because they add significantly less bioload.

Keep in mind though the algae generally means your tank is unbalanced in some way. It is always better to correct that rather than rely on something else to fix it ;)

So would the angel pick on rcs? I've been wanting to get some but am afraid they would get picked on by fish. I put some mts in with him a while back and he sucked most of them right out of their shells. I have other tanks the rcs could go into as well but I'm just not sure where they would be safe. I guess I'll have to post a new thred in the invert forum.

Thanks again AC.

Shrimp won't work with angels. They will be eaten in no time. Also shrimp won't eat algae off of glass so you will need snails if you decide to do shrimp too.

I recommend a BN pleco. You should stock them at 1 adult per 20 gallons. 2 smaller ones would work in a 29g. They are one of the best algae eating plecos and they stay small at only ~4.5" fully grown.

I agree shrimp and angels is a bad mix.
if you decide to go with a catfish like Ancistrus(Common name Bristlenose) most will be fine in a 29 as most stay small varying in sizes up to 6" and as mentioned they will consume quite a bit of algae so you will need to supplement their diet.
