Cycling my tank, and just started my nitrite spike a few days ago. I turn on the light today to look in at the water quality and I notice this white stuff growing over everything...the fake plants, the glass...and I have no clue if it's an algae or a fungus. A quick google/forum search didn't turn up any results (unless it's beginning hair algae, only pictures I could find were really advanced cases).

So, take a look:

Not the clearest pictures, I really thought they'd show more detail. Appearance on the glass is like when you are drying dirty water on a windshield with a blower...

the appearance on the plants is like balls of spiderweb connected to the plant by a single strand (most places it seems solidly connected, but a few places are looser and you can see the single-strand looking connection). I also noticed one ball that is loose and floating around the tank. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Really hard to tell from your pics. Probably diatoms. This is sort of expected/normal with a new tank. They should wipe right off the glass and plants and they will die back after cycle is complete.

After much fooling around on my camera, I got some (what I think) are better pictures.

A couple shots of the plants near the back of the tank. Not quite as clear as the rest:

Here's a few better-focused shot of the black picture in my original post, as well as a close-up (as close as my camera would get):

And a shot of what it looks like on the glass this is the left side of my tank looking through the front glass. Whatever it is more abundant but more spread out (not as balled up) on the front pane as it is in this photo:

Edited to note: Most of the Super-blurry specks are micro-bubbles floating around my tank...I have a lot of them (I'd estimate around a dozen per cubed inch of water).
