I have had my live rock about 5 years. It is a fuel for green algae. I tried Purple Up and it didnt help the algae at all. I was wondering if I should use phospate buster. I would love to get rid of this algae problem. I live in the deep south so my tempeture is at 82 and nitrate are at 20. My anemonmes are doing great but my fish are not. I have a coral light and I think that is sparking the algae growth. I could use some advice. Thanks.

Hi ya.. have you done a phosphate test.. we had the same problem and my phosphate was high.. so using a remover in the filter at the moment..

test water las week and its fine. High nitrate @ 20 but just did 20 percent change. About 4 fish and 3 damsels and 5 anemones. I do feed them alot but they eat it all.

In the first post, you said your anemones are doing great, but the fish are not... please elaborate. What kind of fish? Do they appear ill, have lesions, listless, etc.?

Five anemones!!! What kind of anemones? What size tank is it?

Any light that is suitable for growing anemones can result in algae growth, especially if there's nitrate and phosphate problems in the tank.

Feeding a lot, regardless of whether or not they are eating it all, can still create nutrient problems in a tank. Only a portion of what they eat is being absorbed and used by them. The rest comes out the other end as poo and is ready to fuel some algae growth.

Got a clean up crew (snails, hermits, etc.)?

Please provide some more information, otherwise we'll all just be guessing. :)

No clean up crew. Phospates are fine otherwise the anenomes would be doing bad . Got rock, bubble, sebae, and long tentecle annome.
Fish small, harlequin - he does this quick head whip around the tank, puffer and other 6 fish seem to be doing better. 84 gallon tank. anenomes are thriving with brown coloration but harlequin continues to not be active and stays at the bottom of the tank. 0 nitrates, but I dont have a protein skimmer are a sump but change 13 gallons a week. had harlequin about 6 months now. Feed them clams, silversides, urchin, shrimp, once or twice a day. I do have a coral light for the anenomes and i think that my be the bother. what yall think?

clean up crew

Clean up crew, cut back to feeding 1x day unless you have fish in there that need it (I read 6 fish but only 2 different ones listed), use RO/di water, make sure the bulbs aren't old (10+ months), consider a refugium with macro.

How old are the bulbs. When I think of established systems that are getting algae outbreaks the first think I think of is incorrect lighting spectrum. I'd start with the bulbs first and also upgrade the crew to take care of the current algae issue.
