Algae on new driftwood

LOL

My center piece Mopani keeps growing mold. I've boiled it, scrubbed it, salted it...and no luck. Sounds kind of similar to yours...but no real greenish tint. Not another piece of anything, including the other Mopani in the tank has mold. Kind of annoying lol. Nothing really seems to want to eat it either...since I took the lone male guppy out of the tank.

Bleh...teach me to buy aquarium decor at Petco lol.

ACK, I got mine at Petco too!

I don't really know what to call this growth. It's whispy and whitish, moving towards a light shade of green. I did a bunch of google searching and didn't find anything that was definately IT!

Fuzz algae was the closest but it grows on plants.

It's just gross!

wow. a week over due? you must be feeling yucky. off topic i know but usually i start to feel like i can't wait to get the baby out at around 8 months. i can't beleive your doctor is not trying to induce you.

I feel just fine so I'm patient. I am not a consumer of standard medical care for normal events like healthy pregnancy so I am under no pressure for induction. I'd decline it anyway. We are a bit tired of the waiting game though....I am anxious to meet this little person.

Now, to go scrub that wood...I've not gotten to it today but it will be done before I go to bed tonight!

Well, here's a picture of some of mine...it appears SOMETHING has been munching on it, or perhaps it's dying. It's not so wavy anymore...although in person it still looks sort of like cotton.

Bishop told me not to worry about it so I stopped worrying about it lol. Apparently that was the right choice, as 90% of it is gone now =).

Thanks for the picture. Mine is not that white looking and it covers the wood like a misty ghost. I just took a good look at the tank and it's spreading to my ball of java moss. I took it out and it's really slimy feeling. I just scrubbed the heck out of the wood and pinched off the section of moss that was involved and threw it away. I do NOT want this stuff taking over my tank, what ever the heck it is.

I have another smaller piece of Mopani wood with the tag still attached and it has a phone number for the company. I just called them and their customer service person is out but will call me back. I am going to present the issue to them and see what they say.

I talked to the company and the customer service person spoke with a biologist there and he said that what ever it is growing is in my water and not originating from the wood itself.

I told her I had two other pieces of wood in this tank added about 2 weeks prior to the addition of the mopani wood that have no growth on them. It is definately a different kind of wood and not mopani. We decided I'd put it back in the tank and try to grow it out again and send them a picture of it. I pulled it and scrubbed it yesterday and have left it out of the tank.

In the meantime, she said she'd send me a new piece of wood. Nice of them, I certainly didn't ask for any freebies!
