Algae on Snails

if you really want the algae gone, use some type of commercial algae treatment... LOL... I have SO MUCH algae in my tank but I don't mind... maybe a few nerites will help you can always visit the classifieds(I know I didn't spell that right)

Algae

Heya ,
I have a couple suggestions. First off , reduce the amount of time the lights are on . And second , get a couple of "golden" algae eaters. The are constantly "Grooming" my Apple snails .I have 4 of my 17 tanks with apple's and goldens and none of them have a algae problem. also on timers for the lights. On at 10am and off @ 8PM.
Hopes this helps ,,Ray

You'll find most algae treatments contain copper sulfate so the inverts aren't going to survive pretty much.

Ohh, try Jinkz's idea, those magic erasers clean EVERYTHING. I haven't had any luck with a children's toothbrush on my two either. I bought two golden bridgesii at the petstore and they came like that. I'm with you, I can't stand seeing it. So far, I haven't had any luck removing it, but I think I'm going to try the magic eraser now... lol.

Absolutely NO chemicals for algae, especially with snails as Lup explained.

"golden algae eaters" are actually "Chinese algae eaters" (CAE) and get too large for most aquariums, not to mention aggressive and lazy when older.

is this the magic eraser we're talking about? Melamine Foam

Says it's open cell foam so could this stuff be used as a sponge filter too? I guess it depends how expensive it is, too.

Pik, I'm not sure how well it would work, they're somewhat small (thicker than a normal 3x5 sponge, but shorter and not as wide), and when you use them for their intended purpose, they shrink and end up "disappearing". You could always try it, but, with the price, you'd probably be better off getting something else. I think they have baby bath sponges for under $5, and they're huge (the size of a baby tub)... that might work better.

How about some algea eating shrimp? My algea eatign shrimp cleand the algea off my snails. There wasn't a lot there, but they kept the snail algea free.
