My tank is 2 months old I've been changing my water evry 2 to 3 weeks my water para are good and I keep my lights on fo eight hours a day this is a fish only tank. My tank is a 29 gal bio cube I use both lights for 8 hours a day is this right to do or will this cause the brown algae to grow How do I vacum this brown algae off my sand it seems impossible because the siphon just lifts up the sand and not the algae any suggestions.:help:
Well it would help if you would post your water parameters...Are you using tap water or RO water? Also it's honestly better to do one water change a week as this helps to eliminate the roller coaster effect of the water parameters during water changes. When you say BOTH lights are you talking actinic and daylights?
Brown diatom algae blooms are something that happens to all new aquariums..Its one of the things that we have to live with and live though...Keeping good flow and adequate clean up crew is your best combat tool for it....As asked by USC above, can you post water params and let us know what cleanup crew you have deployed...
I am going to upgrade my tank from 120L to 270L. This is how I am going to start it up, and transfer all things from my old tank to the new tank, please kindly spot any problem.
1) Add 10 pounds of live sand
2) Add 200L RO water
3) Cure 20 pounds LRs from my old tank and add to new tank
4) Add all the sponges/bioballs/biorings into the display tank, they will go to the sump once N-cycle finished
5) Add 5 meshed dead shrimps
6) Add 50mL of live bacteria
7) Switch on the wave maker and directly blow to the sponges
8) Cover the tank with a cloth for complete darkness
9) Wait for 2 weeks
10) Cure the rest of LRs (45 pounds) from my old tank and add to new tank
11) Transfer all corals/fishes/inverts into the new tank
12) Setup the sump using the old tank while the old water remain there, move all sponges/bioballs/biorings to the sump
13) Add 70L RO water to the display tank to run the sump
