LOL those ferns you sent me were coated in that stuff.I just gave them some high light and a steady amount of co2 and the stuff starts falling off.Oh and my swordtails love the stuff
Whacker I got some on my swords, anubias and ludwigia. I went to a local dollar store and bought 4 bottles of H2O2 3% (hydrogen peroxide) @ .50 each, pulled the plants out and dipped them in the solution full strength for about a minute. Replanted and the next day all algae was a pinkish red in color. A week later it was all gone. And H2O2 won't harm your fish when used in small quantities. I read somewhere that you can dose the whole tank at 2 ml/gal but that doesn't work for me.
IMHO, algae is a sign of a nutrient imbalance. Figure out the imbalance and the problem is cured. This of course is easier said then done and will take time and patience but in the long run its better then treating with chemicals which will not prevent the algae from returning.
