anyone use an alge remover that really works. I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank and despite doing 50% water changes weekly and keeping out of direct sunlight I am still having alge problems??? I have tried alge no more and some similar brands with no luck.

im new, but ive heard you could plant some fast growing easy plants to outcompete the algae for nutrients. Also if you currently do not have any plants try cutting out all the light, either by reducing it, or just completely blacking it out for a couple days.

Water changes don't really get rid of algae (at least in my experience). What you need is a scubber to get it off the sides. If you're talking about free-floating algae in your tank, make sure that's what you have. As a fresh newb, I thought I had an algae problem but it was just bacteria bloom. If your water is cloudy, check the color. White is bacteria, greenish is algae. If its bacteria bloom then its just new tank syndrome (assuming this is a new tank, you didn't say) and it will clear up sooner or later once your nitrogen cycle kicks in. If it is algae, then I've always been told that elbow grease is the solution not chemicals.

The tank is not new it is green algae on decor glass flters media etc. I keep the nitrate to 10-15ppm on a regular and like I said keep good water chemistry but it seems like just as soon as i clean the tank and change water a couple days later I am seeing algae growth. I have heard of filter media that reduces phosphates etc. Has anyone tried this?
