today i woke up to my tank life less apart from my acaras and my male peacock and the bristle nose
i lost my livingstonii my fully grown SAE, my eletric yellow,my barcoo grunter and my female peacock(which i havent found yet) the water was perfect but i thinik i OD them i was treating them with broadsprectrum and yerterday they were fine apart from the velvet disease introduced by the feeder fish

the ph was 7.8
and i forgot to test the dh etc

if you can think of anyother posible problems dont hesitat to reply
 
i take it you tested ammonia and nitrites? Maybe one of those anarobic bacteria bubbles released my a digging fish. Or the velvet disease you mentioned? just some thoughts.
 
yeah but dont ammonia take a while to realy kick in and kill the fish i di a 40% water change 3 days prior to the event

and the leaking tank god thats happend to me a few times once my 12ft burst at the corners and flooded my living room this was when i was living at home 7 odd years ago and mum made me mop it all up:mad: but i got a day off school and missed a maths test:D ;)

I agree with Scholar, if you water parameters are fine then most likely the cause of death is probably due in large part to the diseased feeder fish and perhaps a bit too much medication as well. If you can swing it a quarantine tank would be a good thing to have around. I think it's much better to treat in a q-tank rather than in your main display tank. I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Personally, I won't sugguest feeder to even aggressive fish unless the feeders were tank raise by the owner. All my aggressive fish eat only cichlids pellets and sticks unless I can start raising some feeders myself. No worry :)

Maybe you might wanna think about putting their diet back to pellets. It is safer that way.

I agree with dcallen and scholar. I think the death of your fish could be caused by disease.

I doubt heavily the ammonia would set in and kill the fish within a day. One of my tank has ammonia...after 2 days my fish was still alive (now they moved to a bigger tank, whew).
 
i agree with PEFIC that if you can raise your own feeders, then feed feeders, otherwise im strictly against it, and more than likely it was those damn feeders u fed them. i hate hearing about feeders killing whole tanks.

just curious were the goldfish feeders? cause seems to me that the goldfish feeders are the most common feeders to b diseased.

i feed my blue acaras a pacus feeder guppies and dwarf red platys which i raise myself in a 10g.
 
I stopped feeding live foods because I noticed there were leeches in my Black Worms. They are UV sterilized, but leeches still made it through. I wasn't lucky enough to notice the leeches until the second feeding night, so I fed my breeder angels some pretty nasty parasites. I lost one fish thankfully not more.

Live foods of any sort, that you don't grow yourself, are just an accident (or an oversight) waiting to test your patience and emergency response procedures for your aquarium denizens.

Sorry to hear of the losses, don't get too depressed, and don't give up... just take your new knowledge and put it to use.
 
no they were feeder gundgoens i this thats how you spell it they are redaly avalable in australia cause most are native and i think a disease cant wipe out a whole tank in under 10 hours i got a second opinion on the water and he also said perfect so the only posable solution would be that i over dosed them which i find hard to belive
