I had just gotten 30 small shrimp(snowballs and cherries) I fed them last night all were doing perfectly and I turned the lights on today and they were all dead, all of them! I checked my water and this is what I got:

20h
ammonia 0
nitrates .5
nitrites 0
ph 7.8

3 anacharis plants

the only thing different I did since I got them was add duckweed and some new shrimp food, helps with color(but just added 3 small pellets)

what happened??

did you guys have a power outtage or anything? Any airborn cleaners? Sounds like it has to be a contaminant or something.

I want to add I just saw 1 cherry swimming along, but
not power outs that we noticed, temp is slighly lower than 80degrees, the tank sits in an entertainment center so nothing gets to it! **** I wonder if someone's alittle sick of the tank and put something in it! but the guppies that are in there are fine, they are babies, what about the new duckweed, do u think that had anything to do with it???

Would someone actually sabatoge your tank? Temp sounds fine, I asking because maybe you had a faulty heater but either way you'd know if it was temp. My first thought was maybe too hot, too cold and they were unable to adjust to the new water in order to molt. Was the tank new or used? If it had even been used...could it have been a fish tank where fish were treated for disease or sickness?

How did you acclimatize them? Shrimp can be very sensitive to a change ion water conditions; the drip method is the best way to go :)

the tank has been up and running since march 2008 so it established, the shrimp got acclimated and have been in there for days with no issues until this afternoon when I checked on them. I put my hand in there and the water is a fine temp. there is no clouding or anything, crystal clear, the only thing I can think of is the duckweed, I rinsed it off in clean room temp. water before putting it in. doubt it was anyone that put anything in there since it's not the snail tank that is so hated by my husband!! he loves this tank, i just don't know!
