all my new shrimp died???

that is very similar to my water, moderately hard to hard. It should be great for neocaridina species as well as snails.

well hopefully soon I will know if it is the food or not. since I have no more shrimp to test it on a kind soul has traded with me and decided to try the "death sticks" lol... so will know in a week or so! I shall have a new batch of wild neo's and hopefully all will be well after a few water changes!

oh... will try not to forget the new GH kit

I'd just like to add that when I got a small planted driftwood from ebay 5 shrimp died instantly 5 minutes after I put it in the tank. I took it out and rinsed it for 2 days, tried again and everything was fine. Had to be that it was dipped in something to kill hitchhikers.

It's quite possible your tap water had a dose of chloramine (or something else) added for some reason known only to the water treatment folks. They never publicize the fact that they're dosing chemicals for whatever reason, but they do it occaisonally whether intentionally or by accident.

i use a water conditioner, although they are working on the peipes in my neighbourhood but didn't think it would affect anything due to the conditioner I use

I would call your water company, the fact that they are working on pipes in teh neighborhood makes me suspicious. Did they have water turned off for any amount of time?

We've been told to boil our water by the water company when they've been working in our area recently.

Also, when there is low water pressure they say bacteria can build up in the water... (and again recommend we boil our water) don't know what kind- I do know it's a kind not good for humans though.

They don't always put the message out very well though. We've been living at our house 2½ years. In that time there have been 3 times we've been told to boil our water.

2 of times we found out after they STOPPED telling us to boil it.
