how big does the tank really have to be to house those anyway?
would 30ft X 30ft be enough or bigger?

Nor even...one would have to be looking at a pond....probably a good 50' x 30' minimum.

dam u guys!! haha jk.. but seriously.. what else can i put with my gar? or should i sell my gar because my tank is too small?

i am not being sarcastic at all.... the gar will get to be 12 feet long....

It is one of the most flesh hungry fish you can buy....

If you dont believe me take a look at this link.... it typed gator gar in on google images....

Your puffers will be dead in about 3 seconds... and in 5 seconds the fish gar will outgrow the tank.... and if you do choose to keep it in a pond or something.... you will have to invest in a chicken farm to keep it fed...

I would reccomend getting rid of it.... :joke:

Alligator gar should never be sold as aquarium fish. Even most public aquariums don't have the space. To successfully maintain one, you'd need to dig a (big) pond or convert a large swimming pool.

As well, about 5 minutes after the gar eats the puffers, you will find out if the puffers' toxin is strong enough to take out the gar.

what kind of petstore did you buy that fish from?? walmart?

most gars sold are not alligator gars, they are florida gars that get about 18" or so, the minimum tank for one of these should be a 180 gal that is at least 26-28" wide, (they need a big turn radius)

I think a puffer would kill that gar, gars spend hours doing nothing, just sitting in the current then they explode onto a feeder fish, if the puffer does not get eaten right away it may well attack the gar (I have no puffer experience, but i have heard they like to nip)

my 2 cents

First part's true, although there are gator gars to be had on the market. Second part, not so much. Although 18" would be an adult, they're capable of doubling it.

An interesting hypothesis …

right on the dot... i bought this fish thinking it was aggresive.. but it is more tactical than anything.. when i feed it it waits till the feeders are right next to its mouth and when the feeder least expects it it chomps on it.. other than that it juss sits there... i guess my tank is too small cause this morning i woke up finding the gar on the floor.. commited suicide last night i guess.. stupid me.... didnt put the cover on... any recomendations for a new community of aggresive fish? can i even do that?
