whats the general rule of fish size per gallon?

and how much does a 10 gallon tank generally run?

i am wanting an ok sized aquarium, with quite a few fish to watch but im stuck with a smaller tank. I will be getting more Mystery snails soon but i am wondering how much a 10 gallon goes for?

On craigslist, you'll find it for 15$. At petco, $30+.
There isn't a rule. You have to research fish and see how big they get, where they come from, their dietary needs, how much waste they produce...
E.g, Mollies produce much waste, but neons produce little waste.

10 gallon tanks are $11 at petsmart (JUST the tank).. if you want the whole setup (hood, filter etc) they are about $60


DO NOT use these "rules" to stock your tank... do some research on what you want in it.. and then stock accordingly

thanks very much, i want a little more populated tank of smaller fish. I didnt quite understand the fun in watching fish untill i had gotten some myself.

My boyfriend's about to do a 10 with micro-rasboras (or dwarf killis, not sure yet), pygmy or habrosus cories, and tons of cherry shrimp. He's gonna plant the crap out of it. It should look pretty freakin' awesome.
