Alternative filter idea...

I was hoping nobody would pick up on that...hehe I will get it done tonight. For the moment we are going to watch Finding Nemo!

All the time. It's the only one they touch though, so it's a good arrangement. I don't have to replace it very often cos I have it growing in my endlers tanks and it grows like anything :D

Yeah it is a shame, I keep myself consoled by remembering that it keeps them healthy :) It's also cheap. I'm planning on getting more plants (preferably java ferns) but I need to save. Luckily I've managed to get on the good side of the guy in my LFS and he gives me more plants than I pay for normally!

I actually used a marine sand that had (in very tiny letters) "suitable for FW aquariums" on the bottom. I mixed it with playsand that was in the original tank (not this one), so now it's a mix of very fine sand and the marine stuff. I don't know exactly what it is, think it's crushed shells etc. I thought I'd have issues with my pH but it stays at a steady 8.0 so no problems there.

OK, so the pump arrived the other day and I've been put on hold by the fact that it didn't come with a plug (who would have thought!). Anyway I'm set to tackle it this weekend - this is the plan.

I'll put it into a watertight container of some description - If I can, I might make it internal but that would be a whole lotta work and I could possibly get very wet. Otherwise I'll just sink it in a corner and hide it with lots of plants. I will probably stick a pipe to the intake and put it somewhere away from the output, but might have sealing issues here. I might have a look for some silicon at some point.

I have lots of attachments for the output. I can either use the ones provided, which allow me to spread the water out or concentrate it, or I can use my own. I have two spraybars and a spare powerhead.

What do you think?
