I don't want to keep buying filter cartridges for my Bio-Wheel since the carbon doesn't do any good after a few days anyway. What should I stick in there? I know you can buy sponges and floss and whatnot, but I need specifics. I have no experience with anything other than a simple sponge and carbon, so pictures, links to a specific product, etc. would really help.

Also, what kind of maintenance should I perform on whatever I put in there? I've heard that you can just slosh your sponge and whatnot around in whatever water you take out during changes. Is that enough?

On mine I reuse the old filter pad and just take out the carbon and rinse the pad and then put it back in.

The one thing i really like about the Bio-wheels by penguin and such, is that the floss is not cloth like, more like plastic, so its real easy to rinse and reuse a few times. Also the old carbon becomes a nother place for good backteria to live on i beleave.

With my 350, i change one side at a time, a week or 2 apart.

Use the songes for the Fluval 104. cut them to size, jam them in there, and rinse them in old tank water at WC time.

I use old filter pad and a sponge. Eventually I do have to replace the old pad, but it can easy be rised and reused for months. However, I do not rises both out at the same time, just to obviod any possibliity of a mini cycle.
