Alternatives to Hornwort

so i checked my 2 local stores and i could only wisteria but they had it listed as bright light plants which i am kind of weary about getting. i am leaning towards the Anacharis. hope i can find some.
 
Anachris though seems to me to be more of a cooler water plant. It has never grown for me inside, though outside it takes over EVERYTHING, with nice little white flowers all over it. I use cabomba, whish is easy on the eye as well as easy in the ground, and my tanks are about as low light as you can get except for my 75 gal. tank. I also have java fern just sitting on my gravel (not planted), and it has anchored itself into the gravel and looks great.
 
Cabomba eh? well now i can't remember if my LFS had that one! crud! i will have to check again today on my lunch break.

Finding it at a local store? I don't remember ever seeing it at a chain store. Ask around at a local fish club...someone may GIVE you a bag of it. I certainly would..."got plenty"! You may find some in the For Sale section here on AC too.

Anacharis aka Elodea would be my 2nd choice...but it's a but finicky to get it to root and stay rooted IME. Works OK as a bunch plant tho.

lol... you're telling me. i just tossed an entire 5 gallon bucket full squished down to fit in the bucket... with no water in it. :jaw-dropping:
 
so i bought some cabomba yesterday. nice looking though it was a small buddle for $4.99 (theres the cheapskate in me talking:D). i left 2 pieces of hornwort floating (actually tangled in the amazon sword) so they will still be there growing but i can keep them small.

The OP was not looking for an "easy plant". He/she was looking for a plant that did not float around and was easy enough to find in his/her local stores.

If the OP has enough light to grow Amazon Swords; he/she has enough light to grow cabomba in my humble opinion. :)

Ah, I see. Well it's okay. :) Different things work for different people. I have personally been able to successfully grow and culture Cabomba and find it to be fairly easy; delicate, but easy. ;)

To the OP - Good luck with the Cabomba. :thumbsup:
