Altolamprologus calvus - "Congo" Black Inkfin

carpediem

Just received them yesterday via Darrell at Neptune Aquatics (whom I highly recommend by the way). I'm lovin these guys... I also purchased 6 teeney tiney frontosa "Mpimbwe". I snapped a few pics but they are so small, my camera won't focus on them :joke: I'll keep trying though. Anyway, here are a couple pics of the calvus. The two males are really strutting their stuff and the females are letting them.

Cheers...

They look really nice.

May I ask how large they are?

I got 4 calvus but they're still very small. They're such cool fish and are my probably my fav.

There are 5 of them, 3 females and 2 males and they range from about 3 1/2" to 4 1/2".

I'm hoping to get a pair and then I may split one male off into another Tang tank.

Calvus are notorious for growing very slow. Darrell at Neptune Aquatics had these for $35.00 each which I thought was a steal considering their size. I'm very pleased.

No matter what kind of aquaria I dabble in, I always seem to come back to the Rift Lake Cichlids. They are just so satisfying to keep and fun to watch.

I agree 100%, carpediem. I always wind up back with tanganyikans. I love the looks and behaviors. I'm growing out 6 daffodils in my 55 right now. BTW, I was out of the loop when lamprologus was split into neo and alto. When did this happen? Some taxonomist decide his/her name needed to be in print? I got out some of my old reference books and it looks like lots of rift lake names have changed. Looks like I need some new books. Some nice calvus...calvi...calvuses...there. What is the plural of calvus anyway?
