Aluminum Oxide in aquariums

I did a search and one got one result for freshwater. And I read it can harm some corals in saltwater. Iv found this brown Aluminum Oxide on ebay, and it looks like the ideal substrate that I would want. Google doesnt come up with anything much for freshwater, only salt. So, does anyone here have Aluminum Oxide in there pics, have any info on it, and pics?

well it is a metal so i would think it would be bad for fish humans too.
It must react with water or salt water and it is for sandblasting to it is sharp right just get some good smooth sand. I imagine the color would come or of that. It may even be a form or synthetic Garnet used in sand paper(its a gem stone).

Do you know any sand of that color? I either see white/black/ or very light tan

i know they make a lot for saltwater which you can use purple yellow maybe if you mix brorn and red you would get the color you want

i don't know aluminum just leaves a bad tastein my mouth
what is the shipping on that stuff it is 50 pound of sand you will end up paying $100 to send that stuff.

Says no toxic, no bleeding etc. Is that 100% safe for aquarium use? Man so many colors so little tanks, thanks sucka

hmm.. considering aluminum oxide is the end product of aluminum contact with water, i wouldnt use it. if its caused by a reaction between metal and water, it may continue reacting over the long term.

I got a email back about the colored sand.

Hi,

Some grains of sand will float to the top of the water, so I don't
know that you'd want it in your aquarium. The top layer of sand
absorbs the water, and over time much of the sand will get wet, but I
haven't seen it absorb all the way through anything (unless you mix
it well with water first). I've recently been testing it in flower
arrangements and that is what I've discovered.

I hope that helps you decide. Since I don't know fish, I'm not sure
if it would be a good fit for an aquarium.

I asked her if she had any samples of the colored sand so maybe I could test it out myself.

Well I ordered a sample pack of the colored sand chaibill gave me a link to. How would I go about testing the water? I guess have a control and let them all sit out for a few days to stabilize then add the sand. Would all the colors make difference results or do you think one control and just once color of sand would be good enough?
