Why does it seem as though 90% of the time someone means to type "advice" it comes out as "advise?"

And have you also noticed that for some unexplainable reason, people very often type "women" instead of "woman?" I've been noticing that since I first started using the internet back in '99. When guys would say inappropriate things in chatrooms you would often see "I am not that kind of women."

You never see anyone say, "I'm the men!"

Why these two words and why so darned often? And if you can think of more, by all means let's have some fun.

I'm not sure that homonyms should really count, as that is more a confusion of actual words than a misspelling. But good point.


I especially applaud irregardless. It's almost as annoying as "I could care less."

Oh he could? Well I guess that means the person cares somewhat. Not very effective at showing a lack of concern....

And let's not even get into double negatives - they negate themselves. To say you don't have no fish is to say you must have some fish.

Not spelling, but flammable and inflammable mean the same thing.

Penultimate just means "next to the last."

I was more looking at misuse of words because people use the wrong word rather than spell it incorrectly. Or seemingly so. Maybe they assume and implied Please when they use advise. I don't get it.

Using nouns as verbs annoys me (no, you can't disrespect someone, you can be disrespectful).

I would advise you to use "advice" when a noun is required and "advise" when you need a verb.

PS - IMHO: "inexplicable" > "unexplainable"
