once i get my 75 up and running AGAIN!, i'm going to breed guppies in there while it is recycling. then i'm going to take out the big ones, put them with my guppy tank, and let my cichlids have a feast with the littler ones. does this made me a bad person?
 
Yes, you are terrible, and I think you should send me your cichlids instead of feeding them the guppies... :grinyes:
Actually, why not round up some used filter media from a friend or lfs to reseed the tank? Much faster than cycling from scratch.
 
From a guppy's point of view... yeah.

It's ok in my opinion. I also cull my swordtail population by feeding some to my bigger fish. That is if no one would take them of course. :)

lol. thanks. acutally the tank is already seeded for the most part, but it sprung a leak that i had to fix, but i never changed the already filtered media and the substrate never left the tank either, but just as a precaution for the first week or two i'm going to keep the guppies in there.
 
how easy is it to breed guppies? I may just raise a guppy tank just for treats for my cichlids.
 
I think it's a safer way to feed your cichlids treats if doing so with live fish.... a lot of times the live feeders at the LFS are covered in diseases which can affect the immunity of your own fish.

btw, guppies are easy as pie to breed. All you do is get 2 females and a male. You should be flourished with guppies in a couple months all on their own.
