I think I may have killed my pictus, he had ick so I had the bright idea of using Jungle Ick clear (without researching first :idea2: ) He died the next day

I have searched and found one thread that states this is not safe for catfish. Is this true? Did i commit fishy murder

I wouldn't sentence you for it, but Jungle Ich Clear is not catfish-safe, so the Pictus probably died from the usage thereof. (The directions state to "Use at half strength for small, weak and scale-less fish.")

Next time, try CopperSafe for any "scaleless" fishes like Loaches, Cats, Eels, etc., etc.

malechite green is the most effective ingredient in ich medications, but it is harmful to scaleless fish which includes catfish. also it can kill tetras if used at full strength. for these more delicate fish you can buy special treatments like "clear ich". these are nice too because they don't stain your stuff green. they might not be as effective as the stronger kind though, i don't know for sure. anyways we all make mistakes, my first cichlid died last year because i didn't know any better and took the grating off of my filter, and he got sucked up. i still feel guilty about that :sad learn from experience and use a "lite" version of the medicine next time, or only use the strong stuff at half strength if you can't find the kind that says "for scaleless fish" on it. there is always a chance he just died from the ich too, it might not of been the medicine.

I've had Jungle ich cure kill GOLDFISH!! And as we all know goldfish are nearly indestructable. I would recommend that you save your money and just use the salt and heat method.

i have done the salt and heat method combined with a several day blackout in an attempt to get rid of ich without meds, it completely failed, my fish died. i am surprised that so many people have reported succcess with this method.
