Ladies and gentlemen my favorite tank (90 gallon Tang riftie)... beating out my 125 gallon SE Asian biotope:



I think one of the reasons I like keeping a relatively stark, rock-heavy rift tank is that it reminds me of a marine setup (like a FOWLR) setup minus all the additional expense, extra equipment and extreme maintenance.

Call me crazy? Anyone else see their Rift setup in a similar light?
 
I do I do yep you are crazy well so am i hehehe.. i feel the same way at any time i could just take out my fish and throw some marine salt in add a skimmer and whalla reef setup aye..

Yep I know what you are getting at vader - I don't know exactly why I fell for the rift lake species but once you do you never go back :D
 
I'm feeling ya as well Vader. I was just thinking that exact thing the other day. The Rift Lakes are interesting to me because of the similarities between them and the ocean. In Malawi, the Mbuna graze at the rocks much like saltwater Tangs do. There are sardine-like fishes in the Lakes, as well as Gobies. You can see some parallels there, which makes it fascinating to me.
Gorgeous tank, BTW. You certainly scrub the ever-loving hell out of your tanks. I'm sure your fish appreciate you.

Pitt... don't tempt me :D I dream of doing a marine setup but simply do not have the time to take on a project of that magnitude. Maybe after I 'retire' (ha ha).

So true Coler.... I can't imagine not having a Rift now. If I could only run one tank, it would be a Rift.

pinker, Kashta and Lady... good to know I'm in such great company.

Afro... yes I certainly try to keep the tanks as clean as possible LOL. All the specimens hate me during the cleanup and water change, but they get over it after taking in that clean water.
