Am I the only one who can't keep frogbit alive?!

I've never had floating plants before. I was afraid to add duckweed or frogbit, because of the horror stories about removing it. I recently got some frogbit, as I got Norman's lampeyes and was told they'd spawn in floating plants.

The frogbit seems to be dying. Granted, a lot of plants seem to melt at first in my tank, probably because of the soft water. What's there is kind of melting- it's not brown, but it's clear and parts are white. Shoudl I leave it there, and eventually it will grow in ok?

It's in a 10 gallon tank with about 25 watts over it. Help!

What's your surface movement like? I found it doesn't like a lot of surface movement.

Just a HOB filter, not too much movement, and I keep the water level all the way up.

Try Mini water Lettuces I think Duckweed are nice. Just net them out when they get out of control and BURN THEM TO DEATH W/ THE FORCE OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!! But yeah, they will keep your excess nutrient down.

Going to throw this out there, Norman lampeyes spawn without floaters. Since mine and ppl i know spawned in moss. Takes about 10-18 days 4 the eggs 2 hatch. Don't ask 4 details im typing on my Wii lol.

Wow typing on the wii takes dedication. ;) If floaters *would* work I'd prefer that- moss drives me flippin nuts the way it collects debris lol. But if that's what it takes I'll do it I guess. When you're typing on a computer ;) I'd love more info about their breeding in general!

I can't grow duckweed. I'm sure we're envied by some. lol

I found that Duckweed needs still water, no salt, long hours of light and bright light. It also wont grow in any movement unless there is enough of it to get stuck to a slightly calmer spot. Then it spreads out from the calm area, growing from the calm center it created pushing outwards. The more still the water and brighter the light, the faster it grows.

Ignore any spelling mistakes please. Norman Lampeyes are relatively easy fish 2 breed. They can breed in <7ph also 7>ph. Bloodworms or mosquito larva do quite well. When they reach maturity (took mine 3 months) and feel comfortable in their environment, they will breed at random. Really oddly named fish, but once you breed them with moss (or if u want 2 try floaters) they become so much more vibrant and outgoing. Also try to cover ur filters, I lost 2 N-l getting curious and sticking their lovely face in the intake. Good luck!
