who gets freaked out by fish nibbling or bumping into my hand when Im messing with the tank? I mean, its ridiculous, I jump a mile, pull my hand out so fast it sloshes the water and shriek. Im not normally squeamish or jumpy (well, not any more so than others, I think), animals are really my thing, but something about that feeling really creeps me out. I cant be the only scaredy cat here...can I???

Well.... i haven't had any of mine attack me yet, but i imagine if Floyd the Betta took a chomp at my finger i'd give a pretty good reaction.... Ole Floyd has some jaws on him.

yeah, I know its a normal fishy reaction (ooh! food!) but it still creeps me out! And its not like it hurts, which is why its so weird. Even when I know its coming I still dont like it...its only the mollies and the blind guys that do it, makes working on their tanks less than relaxing!

It is not an unusual thing at all. Someone in this forum once mentioned that she could not stand touching "fish water", i.e. the tank. -Go figure- Being timid doesn' t help the fish and hinders your enjoyment in arranging the deco and maintaning the tank. Come to think of it, I had a mollie (now sadly gone) who would bump against my hand very persistently while I was puttering with the plants. Friendly? Maybe. Curious? Probably. Interesting? Absolutely! Keep trying.

hey my hand dodges my red devil...

it doesn't want my hand to go into the water... it attacks me whenever i stick my hand in... it dashes so fast that when i remove my hand quickly it will end up jumping out of the water... im quite afraid that it might fall to the floor too hehe

plus it hurts sometimes :rolleyes:

theres nothing like a feeding frenzy of barbs, gouramis and danios and a melting block of frozen blood worms between your fingers. like dancing with pirahnas. I love it. nothing like the connection you feel with a pet you cant normally touch. { and just to stir you up. if you stayed in the tank long enough they would eat you!! the only thing stopping them is the size of their mouths.}

Personally, I find it really cool. It's neat to connect with my water critters on a physical level. I used to really want to swim with dolphins until I found out how harmful it is to them. :rolleyes:

Years and years ago I bought a very young elephant nose (gnathonemus petersii). After a few months he got used to me being around, both in the room and the tank. Eventually it got to point where he'd actually swim in and out of my fingers and would allow me to hold him. Typically I write a lot of the interaction off to the food connection....certainly my cichlids see me as "Mr Food" but Joe, as I called him, seemed to go beyond that. It was a sad day that I had to give him away because I moved.
