I noticed today my Amano shrimp have eggs.

Is it at all possible that some can hatch and survive?

Maybe there is something I can add to the water that will be plant safe and help with the survival of the baby shrimp?

Or will they just hatch and die and there's nothing I can do about it?

I'm not going to set up another tank just for some shrimp that might die anyway, so that's not a option.

The amano babies need to be reared in saltwater. That is their natural life cycle. They will survive in fresh for a few days but by then they will have all been eaten by your fish. They look like tiny mosquito larvae thusly a yummy morsel for any fish. They usually hatch hundreds of them at a time.

I might be able to get a 1 gallon tank and set up my Fluval 1 Plus filtration. But, I have no idea how much salt to add to a 1 gallon tank and I don't have any sea salt..

I could get some kind of hang in the tank Betta bin type thing and put the mother shrimp in that just before the eggs hatch, then I will have all the babies in 1 place.

you can certainly try and it's been done before but tie your laces and grab your lucky horseshoe cause you're gonna be jumping through a few hoops and still need some luck.

The above article is excellent. I would love to try this some time but I don't have the time or the patience right now. Jag if you can I think it would defenitely be worth a try. If nothing else it would be a cool experiment. If you have a LFS that you like in your area and they have marine fish you can always ask them to help you out with some of their cyled tank water. I am sure they wouldnt miss a couple of gallons a week and there would already be some microorganisms for the babies to start out with in the cycled water. They do take around six weeks to hatch so you will have a lo of time to put a plan together.

Good luck if you try.

I think I will try and see if I can do this if I have the help of a local pet store to donate some of their salt water. I will call them today and see what they say.

What's the smallest sized tank do you think I can keep these shrimp larva in?
I'm hoping 1 or 2 gallons?
