I just got six Amano shrimp for my 40g breeder tank. I was thinking of getting 2 or 3 Siamese Algae Eaters but when I went to my LFS they recommended the shrimp because of the fish I already have in my tank.
I wish I had gotten six more! They are real active. They are all over the tank busy eating and swimming. One of the larger shrimp does laps around the tank. Last night after lights out someone ate most of the thread (hair) algae that is at the top some of my plants.
I would get as many as you can afford.
