hi guys, i guess from my previous thread i found out that it was my overdosing of excel that killed my amanos. I restocked my amanos to control my algae in my tank now after a day. I found another dead amanos, I dose my tank with fertz macros and micros 3x a week alternating it. PH of 7. nitrates of 30ppm( as its a planted tank) and ammonia of 0.25ppm.

what am i doing wrong? I dont want to have anymore dying shrimps. Your help and expert advice would be most appreciated
 
here's your problem:

the tank is not fully cycled if you have ANY ammonia reading AT ALL. It must be at zero, and stay there for a time without any action on your part beyond normal water changes. Zero reading means that the beneficial bacteria has built to a level that can process the bioload (wastes) of the occupants of your tank. It isn't there yet. Ammonia at any level is bad for fish but is positively lethal for shrimp. Check the stickies on "cycling" both with and without fish, that will tell you all you need to know.

thanks... i just recently added about 5 more mollies to the tank could that also lead to the possible ammonia spike? reason i ask was the ammonia was at 0 prior to me adding the new mollies about 2 days ago
 
xanavaloni, i manage to correct the ammonia problem but still the amanos are dying ... what could be wrong..? here is the latest water parameters that i have

Ph 6.8
NO3. 20 ppm
NH3/NH4 = O
PO4 = O
 
Parms look good. What is your maintenance routine like? Water changes since all the heavy Excel dosing? Damage could already be done. Also, have you checked the parms out of the tap? Using any dechlorinator?

Just some things to ponder there.
 
Be careful with your fertilizers. I was dosing CSM+B every other day and I ended up losing all my amano shrimp in a matter of a few months, had 3 of them. So like one a month. Now I only dose CSM+B once a week and I have had 6 shrimp total for almost a year now and they are all super healthy.

Another thing is what is your stock, some fish pick at them while they are molting?
 
Thanks for the heads up about CSM+B. I have been dosing the CSM+B 3x this week. so i found another dying amano. I might have to ease off on the CSM+b. looks like i have to consider otos for algae control rather than amanos... seems like they are pretty sensitive to ferts. I have a pretty have planted tank so its kinda a tough decision to choose which one to sacrifice more... plants or amanos... lol...

with regard to my stock i only have mollies and cardinals.

I just hope that amanos are not sensitive to nitrates
 
Amanos don't seem sensitive to flourish excel, but that is the only fert. I use besides root tabs.

No, amanos aren't sensitive to nitrates:)
