Amazing Otos!

Yeah the ones I have been fine, cleaning the tank. Swimming around all happy.

I placed a Algae wafer in there, but that haven't seemed to take to those yet.

Will see, they are bound to find if they are hungry enough right?

Uhhhh...maybe.
Ottos have a habit of letting themselves starve to death.
that usually happens from stress and improper diet, that's why you MUST buy your otos from a good LFS and never buy them from one you don't trust.

I have one lone oto in my 5G, and he's good at eating the very abundant hair algae in that tank. he does seem a bit lonely... i've been considering getting him a friend.

Perhaps fishcatch has a point with getting your Otos from a good LFS. The two I bought that died earlier were from Petsmart, while the 3 I have now are from what I believe to be the best LFS in town.

Also..good news! I put in another cucumber slice tonight and at least 1 of my Otos has been stuck to it like glue. For some reason the danios don't seem too interested this time. Hopefully the others will catch on soon.

I also set the timer on my tank so the lights stay on 1 extra hour per day, so hopefully that will keep the algae coming. (Wow never thought I'd be saying that :) )

Yeah I know that now. I bought mine awhile back when I THOUGHT the LFS we were going to was good. Turns out lots of their fish are sick, and when we were in there recently lots of their fish had ich. Obviously we don't buy fish there anymore.

I just meant for chatters not to think he's doing something wrong if they won't eat, because it happens a lot when you get ottos that aren't extremely healthy in the first place.

Otocinclus seem to prefer diatoms. Diatoms thrive in low light conditions. More light will simply encourage algae you don’t need in the first place. If they are not eating the cucumber I would just assume they aren’t hungry. I don’t leave the cucumber in the tank all that long. I don’t want to rot. It is just now and then that I offer it to them.

There is a lot of information on the net about them being poorly treated and dying off. The best way to buy them is to buy them after they have been in the shop for about 10 days. People say that way you have a better chance of getting healthy fish in the first place.

A good fish store is always worth the money.

IME, otos are hard to find. I snapped up the ones I found at Petsmart. If you wait, they may be gone. Just make sure there's a guarantee.
