I have an Amazon Sword that has been growing quite nicely for approximately a year. It has recently sent out a long shoot. At first I was expecting a flower or something of that nature however it seems to be developing leaves and intervals along the shoot. How do I propagate the new plantlets? Will leaving the shoot on the main plant drain its nutrients? I tried to look up data but cannot locate that great plant site anymore. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.....

It will produce baby plants. Just let them grow until you want to cut them off and then replant them if you like.

thanks Mark. After I "harvest" the babies should I cut off the stalk?

IMO, until the baby plant produces roots. I cut off the stalk and plant. The mother plant would grow slowly during the period.

I was look to buy amazons with shoots! so I say let em grow, u may get a few more sprouts. I have 3 growing with full root system, then I planted. so let em grow some nice roots.

if u have the room u can plant them as runners w/o cutting the stem, just bend stem towards substrate & bury its roots. if not then cut each babe after they have grown some nice roots then re-plant.

Thanks for the tips! Sounds like it's time to thin out the Vals to make room for more swords! :grinyes:
