I have an amazon sword in which some of the leaves are becoming translucent with a tinge of yellow. Does this problem have a typical cause? Thanks.

Swords are heavy root feeders. Give it some root ferts in the substrate. Push the fert down to the bottom glasss under the plant. You can use Jobes Spikes- Fern and Palm the best choice, Houseplant the next best choice. Cut the spike in 1/2 or 1/3 (larger for larger plant), Repeat about every 3 months.

My 1 amazon sword has given me 4 baby amazons... no CO2, just over 2WPG lighting over my 29 gal (65W Corlalife), fluorite substrate and I dose with this trio of Seachem ferts:

Seachem Flourish (I think this is the regular one, trace elements)
Seachem Excel
Secheam Iron
... and forgot, Seachem Root Tabs... figure I need to add more in about a month or so (every 3 mos).

At the begining, the amazon had similair symptoms... slight transparent leaves... the dosing made a big difference.

foopooh - what's your dosing schedule like? as per the bottle or something different?

I pretty much go by the bottle instructions which is usually about 1/2 capful for my 29gal tank. I don't have a test kit for iron, so I try a 1/2 capful and watch my plants.
Scheduling.... Excel every other day, and the other 2 about twice a week.

not to go off tangent but....
I am newb to this and as I am reading about Potassium:Nitrate ratios... methinks Potassium is the next nutrient I have to look into... along with a test kit... but that's just being VERY picky. My older anubias leaves have some algae, and they have holes.... and maybe 1 of my sword leaves has algae... by no means would I call it an outbreak.

I think they tend to be the tight feet kind of plant and need substrate foods. I would recommend Seachems Flourish tabs.

i have the same problem with my sword. they were doing fine, but now the new leaves are coming in very light yellow and arent turning dark green. i just got some flourish tabs yesterday but it says to place one per 5-6 inch radius....do i need to put them under the plant? or can i just place them in the gravel throughout the tank? my tank is heavily planted and the sword's roots are pretty much throughout the tank. it's quite deeply rooted. if i try and move it, i would probably take up half the substrate with it! it's almost a year old.

the older leaves on my amazon get algae and spots. i just trim them off. when i do, another new leave sprouts out from the middle. the newer leaves havent gotten any algae and any spots yet.
