do i need to put them under the plant? or can i just place them in the gravel throughout the tank?

yep, just push it on down underneath the plant, no need to pull it up

ok good. thanks! i didnt want to have to dig up the plant to put the tab under it. i just pushed it under the gravel under the plant.
hopefully this will help it. i've had pretty good luck with aquatic plants...cant say the same for my houseplants. no matter what i did they would die.
