Amazon sword

Swords are root feeders and like Iron. Root tabs under mine and lots of new growth. I got one recently at half price so I picked it up.

Thanks for this info, I am using standard API root tabs at the moment, which mention no iron or any of the important trace amounts to be honest, so I have just put some on order which contain trace (potassium and iron and all the rest I cant think of) along with the normal contents. Right now I am using a few flourish products to ensure they are getting at least some of what they need. I got a sickly looking java fern from the aquarium too (also free) plucked out most of it's leave and attached to bog wood, hard to believe the plant on my wood now is the same. They buried half the plant in gravel and were killing it.

When I started my aquarium it was never meant to be planted but I couldn't bare seeing the plants they had dieing, so one day asked if I could take one home with me, now I've had between 30 and 40 plants pace through my aquarium. 5 of them died never to be seen again and the rest survived themselves or through seedlings or new growth. so now I think I am a bit of a green thumb

I bought a pack of those API root tabs one time too. It was the only tabs I could find at the time. Pretty sure they're old bits of repackaged nubs of classroom chalk. LOL.. I'm woefully neglectful to my amazon sword. The only root tabs it's seen were the API ones, and that was long ago. I do have some liquid ferts that were suggested by a member here some time ago: Seachem flourish trace and Seachem flourish comprehensive elements (two different bottles). I never got any super results with these with my setups, so they're basically sitting in a cabinet at the moment. I also have some API liquid CO2 and some Metricide 14 (both glutaral products).

I have got some on order from an aquarium selling on ebay, claims it contains iron and potassium and everything else i cant think of so I got 50 for £10 give that a try and I'll let you know

My new root tabs are working wonders for all of my plants, I am seeing even more extra growth on my Amazon swords and my lilipad type plant (donno the name)

These root tabs are like pellets in a clear dissolving capsule. Pretty weird looking but they seem to be doing a good job.

ok, I have just pulled out my two amazon swords to split the roots and while I had them out I thought I would show you my normal method and observation, weather they are right or not I do not know but this method has worked for me several times.

As you can see there are some healthy roots on both of these. circled in red is the one thing I look for, this thick bulb like item is a god knows what, but I know that if I see this I will split the root that are growing around it but nothing else. If like the plant on the right I see brown roots, I clean them up as much as I can leaving only the whiter roots, I will then replant this and wait 3 months and see if I have that green bit. I have only ever split roots on a plant like on the right once and the one of them died, however, waiting for that green bit I have never had one die.

If there are flaws in my method I would love to hear.

hey, right you did the root division right! glad your plant made it. from what the original post stated, I was guessing the plant was without light and fertilizers for a while. I'd say you corrected that!
