Amazon Swords / Brown Spots / Eco Complete?

So, set up my new 50g last week, an upgrade from my 30g.

Tank is heavily planted, Eco Complete substrate, 1.7wpg, dose flourish, only thing that's missing is co2 but that goes in tomorrow (pressurised).

When I planted my Swords I trimmed the roots to half.

However, starting to get lots of brown spots?

Why is this?

Have the roots not established yet or is it something else?

try some root tabs. try not to cut the roots again.

if you just put it in it could be just going through a process called "melting" and a combination of shock from cutting the roots being cut back

oh, the advice i was given was to cut roots to encourage new growth...

do i need the root tabs if i'm using eco complete?

I've wondered this as well, and the answer I constantly receive is a resounding "YES!" Eco-complete isn't a miracle substrate, so root tabs are always suggested.
