Amazon Swords

I have an Amazon Swordplant in a 10 gallon tank with my two common goldfish. I planted about four or five aponogeton bulbs in there as well. A week ago I noticed that they were beginning to sprout. But since then, the largest sprout has grown to about 3.5" tall, and the leaves look REMARKABLY similar to the Amazon Sword.

I would like to know: Do Swords reproduce so effectively? I've only had mine for about two and a half months and it's since grown from having 6" leaves to taking up the whole right side of the tank!

Yup, that's what swords are known for: Tank Busters. They grow extremely fast, and I can only imagine how large they look in a 10 gallon. They aren't as easy to "reproduce" since it involves splitting the root. But they will shoot out runners seldomly, so it's like that they bulbs that are sprouting are simply the aponogeton bulbs and not a sword daughter runner plant.

The aponogeton bulbs can grow to similar proportions of an amazon sword so look out. Eventually these bulbs and sword will outgrow and fill your tank.

I read online and some sites say that Amazon Swords are noted for making little "baby" plants all over the aquarium.

^They spout baby plants out of the same mother plant, so its still attached. They dont spread seeds or anything like a flower would.

if you're talking about him having two common goldfish in that 10G, people have aready told him about that... wish he'd listen.... oh, and swords can get 2' tall. i'd reccomend getting rid of it, too.
