+1 for Paul Sachs aquaculture. I've bought from them numerous times.
 
Well - just got off the phone with Paul and have 8 of the everglade pygmy sunfish, 8 of the okefenokee pygmy sunfish and 5 of the flagfish set to arrive on Friday - soooo excited!! Thanks for the referral to his site - very nice and knowledgeable - will probably order other stock from him in the future.

Just a quick update - my new additions are arriving tomorrow!! Can't wait - even took a vacation day to make sure I am here when they arrive. Getting their tanks ready now - I'll post some pics when they are settled in.

You have all been a great help - couldn't have done it without you. Thanks so much for the input. That's why I love this site!!
 
Well - everyone arrived alive! The pygmys traveled very well - they are looking great (when I can find them they are TINY). I am a bit concerned about the flagfish - the momma is looking better and the male seems to be coming around. They were the 2 adults - the 3 juvies were pretty beat up and their tails are in bad shape. I am pretty sure one won't make it (but Paul sent an extra) the other 2 are in a wait and see pattern. If the 2 adults make it, I will be happy - I plan on breeding them anyway. No pics yet - I am still in observation mode. I realize that the pygmys are for an advanced keeper - I can't imagine them being put into a community tank. I will have a cool nano tank offering someday (I hope) - a pair of everglade pygmy sunfish, a pair of okefenokee pygmy sunfish, a group of 6 celestial pearl danios and some red cherry shrimp - that would make an awesome nano set up!

congrats andy. Keep me updated on your feeding routine and setup for your pygmies. I just pulled a bunch of what I hope are e.gilberti out of the swamp this morning. I found a great place for them so should have a workable colony up and running in short order.

Oh btw, I *think* that e.okefenokee and e.evergladei easily hybridize, but not totally sure, definitely worth a trip over to the nanfa forum for more info.
 
Thanks Dave - I have the everglades in a 30 long, well planted with oak leaves on the bottom with pool flilter sand and frogbit. I have the okefenokee in a 20 H well planted with alder cones, pool filter sand and frogbit. They all seem to have settled well and best I can tell all have eaten. I put some live bbs in and then a few hours later some grindals. They are fun to watch attack the food - really hammer it. These would be a fun fish to have in a 5 gallon on your desk - mezmerizing.

Good luck on the e. gilberti - very pretty little guys. Oh - thanks for the heads up on hybridizing - wasn't sure about that so I decided to keep them seperate. Still have my fingers crossed on the flagfish - 2 are doing fine, one is so so and 2 are really struggling - only time will tell.

Keep me posted on your finds - sooooo jealous. Would love to be able to go on a fish finding trip locally!!! Just too cool!
 
Andy, looking forward to seeing some pics. I sure hope your flagfish pull through. I love watching my E. evergladei eat. I feed mine dapnia,mosquito larva, and live bloodworms.

Dave,you are so lucky.I would love to have E. Gilberti, but none of the vendors ever have them.We would love to see pics of yours also.
 
Hey Mr. Catfish,

I will try for pics today - they are really cute little guys. I had a good harvest of mosquito larva last night and the evergladei chased them up and down the tank - fun to watch. The okefenokee are still young so I'll get to watch them grow up. I need to join the native fish keepers forum now I suppose.
