Amm/Nitrite=0, How up Nitrates?

Hi,
Okay, so I did my 75% change. My ammonia is 0 and my nitrite is 0. My nitrate is still reading around 10 after the 2nd day of the water change.
I brought a sample to Petco (only because they are near me), and they did a strip test, versus my API chemical test and she said my nitrite and nitrate is over the color chart. I was like...huh? She also said the strips might not be consistent because the area is wet and it could have basically made it a non-consistent test at the store.
Was this stupid and do I need to go to a "REAL" fish store, since two tests are showing the opposite?
P.S. I bought three zebra danio's to see if something would change (in my fishless cycle...recommended by the store person...ugh)...was this a mistake as well?
