AMMONIA 0 NITRITE .25 NITRATE 10-20

Pretty new tank. 210 Gallons about 25 baby malawi.
I use API master kit to test the water.
Ammonia always 0 but no mater how many water changes i do (took out 150 gallons in last 3 days) Nitrites stay at .25
Will this work itself out? is .25 safe for the moment???

The Fish are very lively and do not show any signs that they are affected??

HMMMMM...... Very Smart, didnt think to do that.

Quick note. Before I had the fish i left it on for a week (with only some guppies in the tank) and I was testing 0 for everything. I have reason to believe the TAP is fine, but i am going to def test that.

If the case is that i just have not built up enough Bacteria to eat the Nitrite, would .25 be sustainable until that happens???

That .25 if in your tap should be gone in an hour. I think your test kit is just slightly off and you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks, I will be testing the Tap when i get home (At work right now)
That is an answer that should make sense. I thought i was going crazy, I couldnt figure these little baby fish in such a large tank being able to change the water in 1 day.

It sounds as if your tank is still cycling, one week is not long enough to establish a bacteria colony. A non-fishy cycle can take about 6 weeks and a fishy cycle can take longer.

So if the tank is still cycling (most likely is) what can I do? Do I keep doing water changes or do I let the Nitrite stay for a little while. What level can my fish tolerate for now?? .25 ok???? I know it should be 0.......:wall:
